Forever Friend

As I opened the text message I could not believe my eyes
To read the words that would end it all
What took years to construct was suddenly snatched away, as if a rug had just been
slipped from under me

A friendship that I thought would last a lifetime...

It seemed as if my heart was going to explode
Fear, disappointment, anxiety, love, and sadness all soared through my body
How do I grasp all of these different emotions and keep it together

A friendship that I thought would last a lifetime...

You were that forever friend
The one person who knew what I was going to say before I opened my mouth
The one person who knew what I was thinking with just one look of the eye

A friendship that I thought would last a lifetime...

Sisters was the word that came to mind each time I thought of us
A bond I just knew could never be shattered
Till that dreadful day

A friendship that I thought would last a lifetime...

The memories resemble a tattoo that I wish I could erase
The laughter and tears shared, haunting me like a bad nightmare
Will this pain ever disappear

A friendship that I thought would last a lifetime...

One year later and it feels as if time has stood still
My heart still aches for my forever friend
Not quite sure how to move on

A friendship that I thought would last a lifetime...

Trying to restrict your memory from entering my mind
I allow other people to fill this vacancy in my heart
Only to feel even more desolate then when it all began

A friendship that I thought would last a lifetime...

Today I vow to bring solace back into my life
I release the hurt, the tears, and the love
So I must say goodbye to. my Forever Friend
